Sheringham to roll back years for Linvoy's Legends

Teddy Sheringham will pull on a Pompey shirt once again tonight.

Sheringham will don the star and crescent crest as Linvoy’s Legends take on Soccer AM at Westleigh Park, Havant (7pm).

The former England international spent a year at Fratton Park after the Blues made it to the Premier League in 2003.

Sheringham bagged nine goals in 32 appearances, as he showed his class despite moving towards the twilight of his career.

Now he will be back as one of the star attractions for Linvoy’s team in the Faith & Football fundraiser.

Sheringham will be joined by the likes of Darren Anderton, Lee Bradbury, Vincent Pericard, Justin Edinburgh and Darren Moore for the game.

And there will be a glimpse of Pompey’s future as the veteran side is given a youthful injection with Ashley Harris, Sam Magri and Adam Webster also turning out.

There’s bound to plenty of banter flying in the dugout with Hermann Hreidarsson taking charge of the Soccer AM team.

He will hope to organise the Sky TV mob, including presenter Max Rushden, crew members Bobbie, Baby Elvis and Take it Like a Fan front-man Fenners into some sort of cohesive unit.

Primus reckons the night will provide the perfect chance to revive some old Pompey memories amongst all the fun.

And seeing Sheringham turn out again will be a highlight.

He said: ‘It will be good to see Teddy in a Pompey shirt again. It was a pleasure to work with him and really good to see his qualities first hand.

‘He fitted in well and was a joy to work with.

‘People talked about his pace. I think he might be quicker now than he was then! Teddy always had that couple of yards in his head, though, and it will be good to see that in the game tonight.’

Tickets for the match can be bought on the night at Westleigh Park – the home of the Hawks.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for under-16s.
