Smith quick off the Mark as Horndean go nap against rock bottom Amesbury

Two goals in the opening five minutes set Horndean on their way to a 5-1 Wessex Premier win against rock bottom Amesbury Town at Five Heads Park.

Mark Smith grabbed a quickfire brace at the start with Liam Kimber, Louie Martin (penalty) and sub Conor Duffin adding further goals.

'We won at a canter,' said Horndean manager Michael Birmingham.

'The pitch was very difficult, cutting up from the start, but we got the job done.

'It wasn't pretty or fluent but we got the three points.

'We scored five goals and it could easily have been a lot more because we missed some other glorious chances.'

Smith grabbed his first goal following a superb reverse ball from Kimber on the edge of the area, and he added his second from a low near post cross..

Horndean got sloppy and conceded a poor goal but soon re-established their superiority.

Sam Hookey played a great ball from inside his own half to release Kimber who rounded the goalkeeper to score.

Five minutes after the restart Duffin was brought down and Martin sent the goalkeeper the wrong way with his spot-kick.

Duffin capped the fine display with a great header for the final goal.
