Please note that kick-off time is now at 12.30pm.

The Shrimpers’ ground holds 12,392 (all seated) and Blues fans will be in one side of the North Stand.

The stand is a former terrace that has had seats bolted on to it, so there is not much leg room.

The stand is covered, but there are a number of pillars at the front that could impede your view.

Getting to Roots Hall – by road

From the M25 take Junction 29 and follow the A127 to Southend.

Continue towards the town centre, through the lights near the Bell pub.

At the next roundabout turn right (third exit), continuing on the A127.

The ground is on the right, just past the next traffic lights.

Remember, if you use the Dartford Crossing, you must either pay in advance or by midnight the day after you cross to avoid being fined.

Payments can be made at gov.uk/pay-dartford-crossing-charge or by ringing 0300 300 0120.

Parking

Parking at the ground is reserved for season-ticket holders only.

If you turn right as you reach the ground, this will put you behind the away end, where there is plenty of on-street parking to be found.

The nearby Southend High School for Boys (Prittlewell Chase, SS0 0RG), about five minutes walk from the ground, offers car parking at a small charge.

By train

Trains run regularly from London Liverpool Street to Southend Central.

Alternatively, from London Waterloo, catch the Jubilee Line tube east to Stratford, where you can pick up the Shoeburyness train for Southend Central.

The journey from Portsmouth will take just over three-and-a-half hours, so an early start will be needed, with the 12.30 kick off.

The closest station to the ground, Prittlewell, will be closed on the 16th and there are no trains running from London Fenchurch Street to Southend.

Trains between Woking and Waterloo may be affected by engineering work.

Train details can be checked on nationalrail.co.uk.

From Southend Central, it is about a mile north to walk to the ground, about 20 minutes.

If you don’t fancy the walk, either take a taxi, or there is a bus station nearby in Chichester Road where you can get a bus up Victoria Avenue to Roots Hall.

At the time of writing there was no industrial action scheduled for the 16th.

Where to eat and drink

If you are driving in along the A127 you will pass the Bell pub (SS2 6RL) –  a Toby Carvery that also has accommodation.

Not far from the ground, near Prittlewell Station, is the The Fish House fish and chip shop (East Street, SS2 6LQ), which comes recommended by other away supporters.

In the town centre there are plenty of pubs and places to eat, especially down near the sea front.

If you arrive by train then near Southend Central station there is a Wetherspoons pub (The Last Post, Weston Road, SS1 1AS).

It’s a listed building and former Edwardian Post Office.
