In a report headed Misfiring Boro draw another blank in third successive defeat, Alan Scott of the Hertfordshire Mercury said that the defeat would set alarm bells ringing.
‘As misfiring Stevenage went three games without a goal as they lost their third successive match, caretaker boss Darren Sarll must be starting to get concerned not only where the next win is coming from but the next goal’ he wrote.

Hide AdThe writer praised Pompey’s noisy fans for the backing they gave their side, saying: ‘More than 1,600 Pompey fans ensured the gate went above 4,000, creating an electric atmosphere.’
And he concluded: ‘The impressive Tom Conlon did not deserve to be on the losing side but Stevenage are just not creating enough chances. If anyone deserved a goal it was the hard-working Conlon, but his stoppage-time effort from long range thudded against the bar, summing up Boro’s lack of luck.
