The Blues travel to the Lamex Stadium in a third-v-sixth-place battle which could prove pivotal in the battle for promotion.

Both sides have been in a rich vein of form in recent weeks.

Pompey have won their past three games, while Boro have racked up eight victories from their past 10 games.

Stevenage were put to the sword at Blackpool on Tuesday evening, but still have serious promotion ambitions themselves and will be gunning for a top-three place with nine games to go.

And Sarll feels the Blues’ attack-minded football means the game has all the makings to turn into a quality show of football.

He told Stevenage’s website: ‘We’re not playing against a team that crash, bang and wallop it - it’ll be another football match.

‘I think those games suit us and I’m very much looking forward to trying to challenge another top-three team in the league.

Portsmouth are a very, very good side.

‘I mean, it doesn’t matter when you play them, it doesn’t matter what form they’re in, they’ve got some very, very good players.

‘It’s a tough test, really tough test.

‘When Portsmouth come to town, you know the atmosphere’s going to be good.

‘They have been brilliant but the great thing about the way we work here is that I don’t think anyone is ever satisfied.

‘I am far too ambitious to want to sit and muddle it over in mid-table or fight against relegation like last year.’

‘The atmosphere will help us any lingering thoughts or doubts from Tuesday will soon go into the kind of circus that comes with playing bigger clubs that bring a bigger allocation of away fans.’
