Striker is Hunting a Pompey deal

The experienced striker opened the scoring for Pompey in last night’s 2-2 draw at Salisbury.

It was a second goal in three pre-season appearances for the Pompey triallist as he seeks to find a new club.

Blues boss Paul Cook continues to speak glowingly about the former Reading man and would like to add him to his striking pool.

It’s a move which appeals to Hunt.

He wants to be a commutable distance from his young family in the Reading area.

However, ex-club Southend and several in Scotland remain in pursuit of the 33-year-old’s signature this summer.

And Hunt hopes to resolve his future as swiftly as possible.

He said: ‘I am thankful for the manager and staff letting me come here and train.

‘I will speak to them over the next couple of days and see what the story is, but I would like to stay, it is a fantastic club.

‘Portsmouth is 50 minutes from my home in the Reading area and I have a three-month-old daughter, so location-wise it fits.

‘I have spoken to two or three clubs.

‘There are also a few in Scotland so I have a some options.

‘But I would prefer to stay in England and down south.

‘You have to have the right feel for a club, you have to enjoy it and for me I have been based around very, very highly-professional clubs and people throughout my career.

‘I have been very, very lucky with that.

‘And from what I can see at Portsmouth that is exactly how they operate.

‘I am impressed with the staff, Leam (Richardson) and Foz (Ian Foster) have been superb, their training sessions have been great.

‘Discipline is a big thing for me, it is the key to success, without discipline you don’t get anywhere.

‘I want to put it to bed. There are two-and-a-half weeks left until the start of the season and I want to sort it in the next couple of days if I can.’

Hunt was handed the opening 45 minutes in last night’s trip to the Raymond McEnhill Stadium and converted Enda Stevens’ cross in the 42nd minute.

Yet there would be no victory for the visitors as twice they were pegged back with equalisers from Salisbury corners in the draw.

Hunt added: ‘It was nice to get back out there. They were difficult conditions in more than 35 degrees so I was happy to get through 45 minutes.

‘I spoke to Enda before the game and told him if he breaks that line I will always be that first one across the post.

‘Even if he doesn’t see me, he should put the ball across that six-yard box and if I am not there it’s my fault – and it worked.’
