Main also struck the inside of the post during an eye-catching display in the 5-0 victory over the Hawks.

And the striker was delighted to get his Blues career up and running.

He said: ‘Four minutes isn’t too bad. It was just nice to get on the pitch and get some minutes.

‘It has been a little bit frustrating not being able to get involved in the first couple of games but hopefully I can build on that now.

‘I was a little bit behind on the training load and not playing in Ireland was more precautionary.

‘It was nothing major, just slight niggles and taking care of myself rather than pushing it.

‘I have been training but a different type, not loading up the legs so much and gradually building it up as I’m a week behind.

‘Since I came back from Ireland I have done bits and bobs, not fully but working with the physio department.

‘Pre-season is all about building up to the campaign.

‘It’s a long season and great to get out on the pitch and stick one away.

‘For the goal, I saw Christian’s (Oxlade-Chamberlain) shot coming in and gambled on it hoping the keeper would spill it and that is exactly what happened. I was there to tap it in.

‘I also hit the post when Chris Sessegnon overlapped, dragged both defenders and I cut back inside and caught it sweetly with my left foot.

‘It didn’t go in but I am still happy with how it went.’
