Sullivan has character to bounce back

Wallace believes keeper Sullivan has the strength of character to respond to his mistakes in the 4-2 loss at Bootham Crescent.

And the midfielder insisted he has faith in the 25-year-old, who had shown solid form between the posts before the weekend loss.

Sullivan is facing up to the likely challenge of a new rival, with former Ipswich keeper Arran Lee-Barrett arriving at Fratton Park in a bid to earn a deal.

The Blues shot-stopper took to Twitter to speak of his determination to prove the doubters wrong in the wake of criticism. And Wallace believes he has the resolve to do just that.

He said: ‘Keepers get scrutinised but John had been fantastic in the previous three games, so nobody should be getting ahead of ourselves.

‘We haven’t had a number one and Phil Smith has been in. But I’m confident in John, 100 per cent.

‘He’s a good character. He’s one of the stronger players in the squad.’

Wallace insisted the whole team should take responsibility for Saturday’s loss.

He said: ‘You look back over the season and everyone makes mistakes.

‘Maybe there may be a little lack of confidence, but you can’t blame any result on one individual. John wasn’t the only one. There were a lot of us who didn’t perform.’
