The right-back said: '˜It's a good place to be.

'˜When you're winning football matches there's no better place.

'˜In the dressing room the lads are really on cloud nine.

'˜And so it should be. We have real momentum going into every game and we feel very positive

'˜It's an excitng place to be at the moment.'

Pompey's forwards have grabbed most of the headlines this campaign.

Ronan Curtis and Jamal Lowe have plundered 12 goals and eight assist between them, while Brett Pitman has four efforts to his name.

However, Jackett's troops have also been stoic in defence.

The Blues have only conceded more than a solitary goal in a league game on one occasion.

Thompson reckons Pompey's rearguard solidity gives his attacking team-mates the platform to express themselves.

He added: '˜The gaffer talked about working a foundation and keeping clean sheets.

'˜The defence has certainly proved that on that sense.

'˜He's hammered home all we should be conceding is zeros and ones.

'˜Apart from the Wycombe game there hasn't been too many more than that.

'˜It gives us a platform to build one.

'˜When you have the front three or four that we've had in recent weeks you all know you're going to get chances and going to score, so it's important we keep things nice and tight at the back.'
