The centre half retaliated after being struck by a home player, with both men dismissed in the second half of US’ 3-1 Wessex League Division 1 victory.

All the goals came in the first half and boss Glenn Turnbull reported: ‘It was all about the result.

‘We had a devastating spell in the first half when we scored three, hit the bar twice and their keeper pulled off two absolutely worldy saves.

‘The second half was a dogged performance to ensure we stayed ahead.’

Cass’ suspension is likely to begin with next Tuesday’s Wessex League Cup tie at home to Brockenhurst.

It will also take in league matches at Newport and Bemerton.

US boss Glenn Turnbull is not short of replacements, though, with Harry Birmingham and Sonny Harnett-Balkwill having been left out in recent weeks.

‘That’s the beauty of having a squad with six centre halves,’ said Turnbull.

Goals are on the agenda when US welcome inconsistent Ringwood to the Victory Stadium this weekend.

There have been 28 goals in US’ six Division 1 games so far, while the five Ringwood matches have produced 29.

Ringwood, having conceded 18 goals - including a 7-0 thrashing at New Milton in their last league outing - possess the joint-worst defensive record in the division.

But they did win 5-1 at Romsey in last weekend's FA Vase tie.
