Varney completes move as Norris edges closer to exit

Luke Varney has given Pompey a boost by finally securing his move to Leeds.

The striker has completed a £300,000 switch to Elland Road after passing a medical.

And David Norris is close to following Varney out of Fratton Park.

The midfielder travelled to Yorkshire after training today for talks with Sheffield Wednesday, with Leeds also interested in his services – as Norris closes in on a move for a fee in the region of £250,000.

But Erik Huseklepp’s departure still remains in the balance.

Reports in Norway suggested the 27-year-old was closing in on a return to his home-town club SK Brann.

Brann is the player’s preferred destination, with the likes of Valerenga and Rosenborg also keen.

A move is still a distance from happening, however, with the deal hanging on money owed to former club Bari. Huseklepp has also indicated he is willing to walk away from the money he is due for the remainder of his two-year contract.

It’s a similar story with Greg Halford, who yesterday released a statement via Twitter emphasising that point.

Pompey administrator Trevor Birch insisted there is dialogue taking place with Huseklepp.

But there has yet to be any further word from Bari.

Birch said: ‘We’re talking to Erik. We’re in communication with Bari but they’ve not responded yet.’

Liam Lawrence was missing from Pompey training yesterday, prompting talk he was also close to leaving.

The Republic of Ireland international was absent from the club’s Eastleigh base due to personal reasons, however.

Meanwhile, ex-Pompey keeper Jamie Ashdown has agreed a move to Leeds.
