Weather woe for Gosport but key duo could be back for Eastbourne

The rain dashed their hopes of a home win over Dartford with the Privett Park pitch failing an early morning pitch inspection.

Assistant manager Mick Catlin admitted there was a degree of frustration in the Borough camp.

‘The pitch was heavy on Friday and the overnight rain killed off any chances of the game being on,’ said Catlin.

‘After our poor performance in the 2-0 defeat at Bishop’s Stortford we were looking to get playing again as soon as possible.

‘The one positive is it has given us more time to get a couple of our injured players back.’

Catlin is hoping to have defenders Rory Williams and Brett Poate fit again for tomorrow night’s home game against Eastbourne Borough.

Caitlin believes their return can make a big difference.

‘They have been two of our most consistent performers this season,’ said Catlin.

‘It will be good to get what we regard to be our strongest back four out on the pitch again.

‘Both being left-footed gives us an added balance.

‘Brett is vastly experienced and a good organiser for us at the back.

‘Ryan Woodford benefits a lot from having his experience alongside him.

‘When Brett isn’t there Ryan doesn’t have the same luxury of his cover.’

‘We have an important couple of home games coming up which could shape the rest of our season.

‘They could make the difference between challenging for the play-offs or fighting for a top half finish.’

The clash between Horndean and AFC Portchester in the Wessex League premier division was postponed.

Moneyfields saw their home clash with Whitchurch United also called off.
