Substitute Ryan Lowe’s header on the stroke of half-time ensured promotion-chasing Bury left Fratton Park with a win on Saturday.

It was the decisive moment in a match of few goal-scoring opportunities and largely a mundane affair.

Yet the Blues cannot be faulted for effort or attitude, even if their play in the final third did lack a cutting edge.

A total of 26 points separate Saturday’s opponents in the League Two table.

But Westcarr is convinced the hosts deserved plenty more out of their penultimate Fratton fixture this season.

He said: ‘As their assistant manager (Chris Brass) said, it was a bit smash and grab for them really.

‘They were quite happy with the result, it was a big win for them and fair play. I wish them all the best.

‘But it was a smash and grab massively, there was nothing in the game.

‘We played well, played some good football, conceded a sloppy goal then they shut up shop really and closed the gaps and spaces and blocked balls into myself and Tubbsy.

‘It ended up being a tight game, they dropped deep and it was difficult for us to break them down.

‘It was disappointing but we can still take heart from it. We kept at it, they were very well-organised in the end.

‘But it has been a disappointing campaign, we know that.

‘They are where they are and we are where we are at the end of the day, the table doesn’t lie.’

One topic sure to be raised from the floor will be the issues behind Mick Williams’ departure from both club and Trust boards last month.

And the Trust’s John Kimbell is looking forward to addressing any concerns about the Trust as a whole among the membership.

He said: ‘It’s a first opportunity for our members to raise questions in person to the board since the AGM in December.

‘As ever there, we will endeavour to come up with answers and hopefully as many people can be there as possible.’

However, new Trust treasurer Geoff Paul will
not be present as he is on holiday.

Doors for tomorrow’s event open at 6.30pm and tickets
are available from pompeytrust.com
