Gary Wheatcroft’s men are now six points clear at the top of the embryonic Senior Division table after coming from behind to claim a 2-1 win at Hythe & Dibden FC last night.

A Jack Waters own goal gave Bush a 25th minute lead which at the time was well deserved.

But Infinity hit back strongly to lead at the break and most neutrals would have few complaints that they eventually collected their 25th win in their last 20 HPL outings.

Danny Phillips struck his sixth goal in as many league games this season to level on 34 minutes, scampering on to a White through ball to lift his shot over keeper Niall Devereaux.

Three minutes later, Infinity were ahead.

White received the ball on the left-hand side before cutting in and scoring with an angled shot into the corner from the edge of the area.

Both sides are not used to losing - between them they only suffered one defeat in 44 HPL games in the aborted 2019/20 campaign.

Infinity have not lost since a 4-0 caning at Bush at the end of the 2018/19 season, while Bush entered the game having not lost since September 7 last year - a 2-0 home defeat to Fleetlands.

It was Bush who enjoyed the lion’s share of the early possession, passing it around nicely without really hurting Infinity.

Wheatcroft admitted afterwards that was part of his gameplan, allowing Bush plenty of the ball but looking to hit them quickly on the break.

The boss made five changes to the side which was surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by lowly Chamberlayne at the weekend.

The same Chamberlayne that Bush had hammered 12-0 in their opening game, with Mark Barker hitting a double hat-trick.

Ex-Fleetlands keeper Derek Harding became the third No 1 Wheatcroft has used in 2020/21, while he also welcomed back centre halves Rich Sibley and Gary Fitzhorswell as well as right-back Waters.

The talismanic figure of White - operating in a No 10 role behind central striker Phillips - was also back after missing the Chamberlayne game.

The last action of the first half saw Bush have a goal disallowed when Perry Harding’s header was ruled out by an offside flag.

The second period followed a similar pattern to the first, with Bush seeing plenty of the ball but Infinity looking to counter quickly.

Harding parried one fierce shot from Barker, but Infinity created the better chances.

Josh Oxlade saw a shot palmed away by Devereaux before Phillips was put clear by Tom Andrews, only to shoot wide when he really should have made it 3-1.

A rash of bookings followed, with Perry Harding and Infinity trio Andrews, Wayne Boud and sub Junior Kamara all shown a yellow card.

Derek Harding would have possibly expected a busier evening against a free-scoring Bush side, but Sibley and Fitzhorswell nullified the huge threat of Barker.

Stockbridge moved up to third place in the Senior Division with a 1-0 home win over Sway - Oli Adams netting in the 89th minute.

Infinity welcome Stockbridge this Saturday while Bush host Clanfield at their new Test Park headquarters.
