Whittingham: We'll do our best to Bury recent form

Guy Whittingham believes Pompey will come up with the right response at Bury this weekend.

The caretaker boss saw the miserable 1-0 defeat to Brentford in midweek and the equally-disappointing FA Cup exit last weekend.

And Whittingham, who has taken the reins from Michael Appleton on a temporary basis, knows the Blues players are keen to right a few wrongs at Gigg Lane.

Whittingham said: ‘I think there would have been a reaction to Tuesday’s game, no matter who was here in charge.

‘It’s for the players now to go out and show some passion and pride.

‘My main aim is to get the players happy, playing well and playing the type of football they want to play.

‘But Bury have picked up over the past few games. It will not be easy at all.

‘The first thing we have to do is show a willingness to work hard.

‘They showed in training that they are prepared to do that and now they need to take that out on to the pitch.’
