Wright’s second-half goal was enough to deny the Spitfires the win.

Eastleigh, on the day they signed Ryan Cresswell from Northampton Town and former Pompey striker Ryan Bird, took the lead on 41 minutes at Privett Park.

Ross Lafayette scored the goal for the visitors after a good flowing team move.

But Gosport were determined to match their ambitious National League opponents.

And striker Wright continued his superb pre-season with an equaliser on 47 minutes.

It was a goal against his former club and he showed his class by not really celebrating the strike.

Bird was handed his Eastleigh debut as a substitute for Scott Wilson in the second half.

Meanwhile, the Hawks delivered a superb home performance to crush Southern League side Totton.

Jason Prior put Lee Bradbury’s team ahead on 31 minutes.

Bradley Tarbuck then made it 2-0 five minutes later.

Some great work from George Barker set up Alfie Rutherford to score the third in the 83rd minute of the Westleigh Park friendly.

The scoring was still not finished there.

Rutherford turned provided to allow Theo Lewis to net and complete a very impressive win for the Westleigh Park side.
