Gibson and Walker on top form for Havant

Rob Gibson hit 103 and Ben Walker fired 103 not out as the home side declared on 283 for five off 52 overs.

New Milton were bowled out for 164 with spinners Richard Hindley (five for 45) and Chris Morgan (four for 50) doing the damage.

‘This is a good win and one that has been coming for a couple of weeks,’ said vice captain Andrew Gorvin.

‘This time we made sure that we got over the line.

‘Rob Gibson showed what an important addition he is going to be in the last six weeks.

‘He scored his century in good time, hitting a lovely couple of straight sixes.

‘Ben Walker is also leading by example and the two of them put on nearly 150 for the second wicket.

‘That sucked the life out of new Milton and we knew that we were not going to lose after that.

‘We only bowled five overs of seam in the game and our spinners took six wickets in the final hour.

‘It was good to see us use the conditions to our advantage.’

In division one Portsmouth suffered a five-wicket defeat to Hook & Newnham Basics.

Once again it was the home side’s batting that let them down as they were bowled out for a total of 117 runs.

Only 22 not out from Vikram Dawson, batting at number seven, provided any resistance.

But Portsmouth were never going to be able to defend such a small target.

Andrew Marston did his best to stop the inevitable as he picked up five wickets for 18 runs.

However, it wasn’t enough and Portsmouth now lost four games in a row.

Sarisbury Athletic got back to winning ways with a five-wicket success at Old Tauntonians & Romsey.

Tom Kitcher (four for 47) was the pick of the Sarisbury bowlers as the home side were restricted to 205 for seven.

Basil Akram hit 91 and Sam Floyd’s 49 not out guided the visitors to a crucial win with 10 balls to spare.
