Biddy Benson has proved retirement from the sport of golf simply doesn’t exist.
The sprightly 95-year-old has been awarded the distinction of lifetime honorary membership of Cams Hall Estate Golf Club, in Fareham, in recognition of her commitment to the club and a golfing career that spans a staggering six decades.
When Biddy considered rescinding her membership after 18 happy years at Cams Hall, the kind-hearted club stepped forward with a fabulous gesture that means their loyal member will still be able to take to the fairways and extend her career even further.
Lady captain Pam Guymer explained: ‘Biddy is a much-loved member of Cams Hall and we were all alarmed to hear she was considering her membership options.
‘As a result, I approached our members’ committee and the general manager, Matthew Rollinson, to see what could be done to ensure Biddy’s continuing membership.
‘Without hesitation, the decision was made to bestow a lifetime honorary membership on Biddy, not only of the ladies’ section, but also of the club. We are all delighted with the outcome.’
Delighted Biddy, who becomes the club’s first honorary member, said: ‘I am extremely pleased with my lifetime honorary membership.
‘It means I can continue to see my friends and play a few holes of golf at the club I love.’
