Gosport swept the board with 12 medals in the Southampton Samurai competition.

Coach Dave Mitchell was delighted with the performance of his talented young squad.

Their medal haul included four golds, two silvers and six bronzes.

Oliver Theobald, 13, currently ranked sixth in Great Britain for his age and weight, led the way as he picked up a gold.

Mitchell said: ‘He’s doing very well, not just here but also on a national scale. He’s certainly a stand out.

‘But all the kids gave a great account of themselves, which was great to see.’

Jack Roberts, Keira Thomson and five-year-old Finley Thomson completed the Gosport gold rush.

Poppy Theobald and Jacob Cowell each picked up silvers.

Callum Thomson, Oliver Walters, Fenton Cowell, Georgia Thomson, Tayah Thomson and Morgan Holloway were the bronze medallists.

Many of the Gosport squad made competitive debuts.

Next up for the Gosport club members is the Southern Area Pre-Cadet and Cadet Open on Saturday.

It will be a high-class event, with around 200 competitors from all over the south descending on Worthing.

Mitchell’s charges will relish the test.

He said: ‘This one is a prestigious event so we’ll be taking about 10 of our kids along.

‘Hopefully we’ll do just as well.’
