The Corhampton Golf Club member and world number seven shot rounds of 70, 70, 70, 76 – with three of his scores counting – as England claimed their first ever top-three finish in the Eisenhower Trophy.

Accompanied by Alfie Plant (Sundridge Park) and Meltham’s Jamie Bower, the trio’s 19-under-par total saw off competition from joint-third finishers Ireland and Austria (18 under) as they finished runners-up to winners Australia (38-under).

In the individual standings, Gregory’s final round of 76 cost him dearly as he finished on level par for his four outings and a tie for 39th place.

Plant claimed a bronze medal as he finished third on 12-under – five shots adrift on winner Cameron Davies (Australia), who finished on 17-under.

Bower tied 54th on three-over.
