Gregory paired with former champions at Open

Scott Gregory will play alongside two former Claret Jug winners at this year's Open Championship.

The Corhampton Golf Club ace has been grouped with Sandy Lyle and David Duval for the second Major of the year at Royal Troon.

The trio tee off at 7.08am on Thursday morning – the fourth group out.

They will then head out for their second round on Friday at 12.09pm.

Twenty-one-year-old Gregory earned his place at Royal Troon courtesy of his victory at the British Amateur Championships last month.

Lyle won The Open in 1985 at Royal St George’s, before winning the US Masters in 1988.

In total, the Scot, 58, has 18 European Tour and six PGA Tour victories to his name.

He also played in five Ryder Cups.

Former world No1 Duval enjoyed victory at The Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in 2001.

The 44-year-old has 13 PGA Tour wins on his CV, plus two Ryder Cup appearances (1999 and 2002)
