Griffiths helps Waverley put Park to the sword

Waverley thrashed College Park by 49 shots – winning on all four links but led by Mark Griffith’s team.

The Southsea side’s cause was helped by Rowner slipping to a shock three-shot home loss at the hands of bottom club Gosport.

With both clubs winning two rinks, it was the 12-shot success of Mark Crispin’s Gosport team that swung it their way.

Alexandra took full advantage to move into second spot with a huge win over Lee-on-the-Solent.

They claimed all four rinks as they rattled up a 42-shot win.

Steve Feilder & Co led the way with a 20-shot win over Dave Heather.

There was another surprising result at Milton Park, where the home team fell to a two-shot defeat at the hands of Waterlooville – their first win away from their carpet.

The 15-shot win for Mick Brown’s Milton rink was to no avail.

It was their only win and quickly counterbalanced by the 14-shot success of Joe Slatter’s Ville rink.

In division two, Vospers extended their lead at the top of the table by thrashing Bedhampton by 53-shots at their Northern Parade home.

Vospers won on all rinks – with big wins for those led by Dave Harding and Peter Musson.

Leigh Park beat Cowplain by seven shots at Front Lawn – thanks to the 26-shot win for Mark Miller’s rink.

That was their only success as Bryan Franklin’s squad won by 17 shots and fightbacks on the rinks of Mike Hyland and Ted Howard gained Cowplain five points.

Hayling Island won again – this time beating Purbrook by nine.

The 11-shot win for Tony Claydon’s rink gave them hope but the victories by the other three Hayling rinks meant the points went to the Islanders.

Struggling Naismith lost by 18 shots at Denmead – picking up three points with a win and a draw.

However, Denmead had big wins on the rinks of Glyn Jones and Mike Wright to give them the game.

Bottom-club Cosham went down by 36 shots at the hands of Star.

Star won on all rinks, led by Robbie Dennison’s 22-shot victory.

In division three, leaders Phoenix extended their lead at the top with a 20-shot home win over Gas Social. The size of the success was thanks to Alan Taws’ rink – who beat Alan Larcom’s men by 25.

Phoenix grabbed another win and a draw, with Terry Williams’ rink replying for Gas.

Portsmouth Water defeated visitors Forton by nine.

Two draws and a 13-shot win on Pete Leggett’s rink were enough for glory.

Crofton moved into third after their six-shot win at Bridgemary. They took two rinks and drew another.
