She has now picked up the award for outstanding sporting achievement (Individual) at Southampton Solent University.

‘It was an honour to receive this award in my first year at Solent,’ said Simm, who is studying BSc Applied Sports Science.

‘To be recognised for all the hard work I’ve put in and for my performance last year is amazing, I’m so grateful.’

In 2014 Simm won Team gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

This year she has been crowned English floor champion, picked up a silver medal on vault and an all-around bronze.

She was also named sportswoman of the year in The News Sports Awards for 2014.

James Foad, three times world rowing silver medallist and Olympic bronze medallist at London 2012, congratulated the winners.

He said: ‘Thank you for inviting me to the Sports Awards so I could celebrate everyone’s sporting success over the last year.

‘I believe that those who take part in sport during education will be a huge success in whatever pathway they choose. I believe the two go hand-in-hand.’

Phil Green, Associate Professor and Director of Solent Sport added: ‘All of our athletes have contributed greatly to what has been another successful sporting year for Team Solent.’
