Claudia Garner shone as the National Grades for the South region proved a big success at Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre (PGC).
Five gymnasts from the host club were working at the National grade levels three and four.
All the PGC girls kept calm and focused for warm up but the pressure did creep up when it was time to present to the judges.
The competition standard was very high.
The top-five in each grade secured places to represent the south.
Four of the PGC gymnasts worked really hard but just missed out on the day.
However, Garner relished the pressure environment.
The Portsmouth gymnast finished in first position.
Her routines were near perfect and beautifully performed with accuracy and control.
Garner progressed to be head of the Team South and went on to secure the British title as she continues to impress.
The other Portsmouth gymnasts, Hannah Judden, Comfort Yeates, Hallie Parkes and Sydney Whittle all passed their grades with flying colours.
PGC Head Women’s coach Tina Field said: ‘The girls all enjoyed having the competition at their gym.
‘It was a tough competition as National Grades can be the exit route grade for elite performers the year before.
‘So standards are so high, but we enjoy having a tight competition as it makes the winning spot even more special.’
Meanwhile, PGC’s Maisie Lloyd-Jones has been invited for England training again.
