Hampshire all-rounder admits Yorkshire are ahead of the game

After the first session was washed out, a total of 15 wickets fell before stumps in the division one encounter at Headingley.

Yorkshire were bowled out for 184 before Hampshire reached 79 for five by the close of play.

Berg reckons the home side are in the box seat after getting 30 or 40 runs too many.

The all-rounder, who took two for 30 on his return to the side, said: '˜I think 180 was a little bit too much for us in the sense we didn't bowl as well as we could have.

'˜150 or even 140 would have been a fair enough target. We would have been happy with that.

'˜All it takes is one good partnership and we're right up amongst it again.

'˜If we can get past them, great. We'll see where we are after that.'

James Vince elected for an uncontested toss, which put his Hampshire troops in the field on Tuesday afternoon.

Having reached 70 for two, Yorkshire tumbled to 72 for five before Jonathan Tattersall (19), Tim Bresnan (25) and Matt Waite (22) led a recovery.

Jack Brooks (14) and Ben Coad (not out 13) then added 24 for the final wicket as Fidel Edwards finished with four for 83.

In reply, only Joe Weatherley (21) and Vince (25) really got going for the visitors.

Tom Alsop and Kyle Abbott will resume on Wednesday morning with Berg yet to bat.

The 37-year-old was left out of Hampshire's past two four-day fixtures.

But with Dale Steyn's spell at the Ageas Bowl coming to an end last week, he returned to the side at Headingley.

Berg added: '˜It's nice to be back in the team. I feel like I haven't bowled for about a month.

'˜I'm not quite there yet. I'm at about 80 per cent and that's pretty good.'
