Havant frustrated after missing chance to get win at Oxford Hawks

The way the match turned out it was a disappointing outcome for the away team with Indy Laly spurning a golden chance to win the game late on.

University of Portsmouth student George Harrison, was called up for his National League debut for Havant.

It was also a milestone for Harry Croft-Baker as he turned 16.

Havant won the first penalty corner of the game after good interchange on the left between Akhtar Ali and Charlie Stubbings.

But Federico Bertoni pulled his drag flick just wide of the left upright.

Oxford bounced straight back with a high shot that Maciej Pacanowski saved well.

In the 30th minute Oxford won their first penalty corner.

Jake Biggs' drag-flick was an unstoppable effort into the top left hand corner.

Havant hit straight back and three minutes later some dazzling stick work from Akhtar Ali found Jack Stubbing's in the centre of the circle.

This time his shot was turned round the post by Oxford keeper, George Oyebode.

Just before half-time, another Biggs drag flick was well saved by Maciej.

Oxford started the second half strongly again, forcing another penalty corner which Maciej saved.

It was Havant, though, who got themselves level after 48 minutes.

Federico fired a powerful flick past the right hand post man.

Five minutes later, Havant went ahead. Ethan Hoddle won a sixth penalty corner after some good work down.

With Federico off the pitch, Jonathan Pickett linked with Cox to score with a well worked deflection.

The lead only lasted two minutes. Oxford won a free hit just outside the circle.

Although the ball didn't appear to travel five metres before entering the D, the umpire waved play on.

The Havant defence still had two opportunities to clear the ball, but when they didn't, the Oxford captain, Andy Watts, netted.

Laly then had a great chance to win it for the visitors but couldn't connect properly.

Meanwhile, Havant Ladies earned a 1-1 draw with league-leaders Marlow in South Clubs' Women's League division two.

Both sides played well in the match.
