Havant grab vital win as Henley are swept aside

Good work up front led to Havant winning possession higher up the pitch.

The midfield were again well marshalled by the experienced Craig Duffy and Duncan Marsh.

Some good opportunities fell to the Havant forwards and the Henley goalkeeper made some sharp saves from good efforts by Mike Deller-Merricks and James Speke.

Henley took the lead with a well worked penalty corner.

But Havant were soon back on level terms with a well executed flick by Adam Seccull from their first penalty corner.

The half ended with the scores all square and coach Ady Adams made some minor adjustments.

Seccull gave Havant the lead early in the second half from another slick penalty corner routine.

The Havant forwards and midfield players linked well.

And Borja Meissner increased Havant’s lead with a well-taken field goal.

Havant kept up the pressure and won another penalty corner.

Seccull looked for his hat-trick.

But the injection was not straight and instead Tomek Bruml flicked low into the goal to make it 4 -1.

Havant continued to press forward with Adam Bloomfield linking well with James Evans and Meissner.

The ball ended up with Davis Taylor-Bargent who did well to eliminate the goalkeeper with a reverse stick pass, but unfortunately it did not find the net with Ollie Nail flicking wide.

On Sunday Havant beat Chichester 4-3 on penalty strokes to reach the quarter-finals of the England Hockey Cup.

The match ended 0-0 before the drama started.

Chichester scored their first three strokes with Havant missing two.

Tomas Santiago saved Chichester’s next three penalties and James Lester and Borja Meissner both held their nerve to put Havant into the draw for the quarter finals.

The next round is not until February.
