Havant won't get carried away by good run of form

Head coach Will Knight insists his team won’t get carried away even though they are second in the league.

Their form has been excellent but there is still a long way to go in the season.

Chobham have been looking strong themselves with some good recent performances.

So it promises to be a hard-fought contest.

‘We are not even half way through the season yet and a lot can happen between now and April,’ said Knight.

‘Chobham got within a point of Tottonians last week so we know that it will be a challenge.

‘We need to go there and look to repeat the level of performance we showed in our last away game at CS Rugby.

‘It is up to us to make sure we challenge Chobham in every area of the game.

‘We are on a good run at the moment but what is really positive about this group of players is that they are all very grounded.

‘Yes, it is great to be where we are and there is a level of excitement about it.

‘Our focus, though, is very much on beating Chobham and nothing beyond that.

‘We are forced to make a number of changes but that will give opportunities for others to come in and show what they can do.’

In the forwards Joe Davis moves to open side wing-forward because Steve Cruddas is unavailable.

Nathan Bellman comes in at blind-side wing-forward.

The visitors also reshuffle their three-quarters.

With Dave Sweeney missing, Wayne John switches from scrum-half to outside half.

Jake Hewitt returns at scrum-half and Jay Wilkes replaces the injured Scott Morris on the wing.

Wilkes has been in electrifying form in the second team where he has scored 17 tries this season.

The unavailability of Darren Bamford means Loz Blackburn reverts to full-back and Jerome Rudder, back from playing sevens in Dubai, takes his place on the wing.

Knight knows the side must be fully focused.

‘We don’t want to slip up against teams we should be beating,’ said Knight.

‘That has been an issue with Havant teams in recent years.

‘We are making a few changes but all the players coming in are more than capable of performing at this level.

‘Our strength in depth is one of the reasons behind our success.’
