A solid performance saw Havant beat Isca 3-1 in the National League men’s conference west.
The match was lit up by a spectacular goal from Jack Stubbings which clinched the victory.
Federico Bertoni netted twice from penalty corners.
Isca took the lead in the 17th minute from their first of two penalty corners won during the game. Their routine broke down but it did finally present an opportunity for Tom Whitwoth who reacted quicker than anyone else to flick the ball high into the net.
Just five minutes before the break Havant scored the equaliser that they deserved. Bertoni converted Havant’s first penalty corner flicking the ball low and hard straight down the middle of the goal with sufficient pace to squeeze under the keeper.
Early in the second half Havant forced a second penalty corner of the game and once again Bertoni converted.
His first flick was saved with the rebound coming straight back to him. He placed the ball on his left foot and riffled a reverse shot into the corner of the goal in the 39th minute.
The momentum of the game was now all with Havant who pilled on the pressure.
Craig Duffy and Matt Cox masterminded the midfield.
They were in good form to inspire Havant's best hockey.
Havant kept good possession, were patient and deployed excellent running off the ball into good positions to receive the ball.
This pressure paid dividends in the 54th minute after Ethan Hoddle threaded a pass from the half way line through the Isca midfield and defence into the circle.
Stubbings arrived quickly and dived to deflect the ball into the goal to wrap up the victory.
Havant Ladies lost 3-2 to Epsom in South Clubs’ Women’s League division two.
Player coach Patrycja Hyla scored Havant’s goals in a game that continued to show progress for the team.
