A catastrophic 15-minute spell saw Fareham Ladies ship five goals in a 7-3 defeat at East Grinstead 2s in South Clubs’ Women’s League division three B.
Emma Jones gave Fareham the lead in the fourth minute but their hosts were back on level terms within a minute.
And what came next was a disastrous spell as Fareham conceded five goals in the space of 15 minutes to find themselves 6-1 down at half-time.
However, they showed great character in the last 20 minutes, despite being 7-1 down.
Vicky Field scored twice to restore some pride for the visitors.
Coach Steve Lemon said: ‘They basically lost the plot for 15 minutes, which cost them the game.
‘But I was really pleased with the second-half performance and in the last 20 minutes we were definitely the better side.’
Fareham drop to ninth in the division with three points from three games.
Elsewhere, Havant Ladies put on a better showing against Reading 1A but were defeated 3-0 in South Clubs’ Women’s League division one.
Havant trailed 1-0 at half-time and were still in it with 10 minutes to go.
Nicky Atkins came closest to equalising but she couldn’t find the net from a tight angle.
Emma Evans linked well in the centre and Kim Tyrell weathered the storm of heavy pressure from the Reading midfield.
Naomi Brigg displayed some excellent ball play, running through the Reading midfield time and again.
It was only in the last few minutes when tiredness crept in that Mark Robinson’s side conceded two more goals.
Player of the match was awarded to Pippa Lock for her industrious work up front.
