Vicky Field scored a last-minute winner for Fareham Ladies as they edged past Guildford 3-2.
The hosts went 2-0 up but were pegged back to 2-2 before Field scored the all-important third goal to secure her side’s first win of the South Clubs’ Women’s League division three B campaign.
Fareham started the game strongly and went 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Tracy Henderson.
The Henry Cort side controlled the game with good possession of the ball, and, midway through the first half, they were awarded a short corner which was converted by Field on the left post.
Fareham maintained their two-goal advantage until the break but then Guildford got themselves back into the match in the 36th minute with a straight strike from a short corner.
Good chances came for both teams in the last quarter of the game but with one minute to go, Fareham caught Guildford on the break and Field, with a one-touch finish, gave her side a vital three points.
Manager Steve Lemon said: ‘I was very pleased with the character of the team.
‘We started well and deserved our lead but despite being pegged back to 2-2, we kept going and the team still believed they could win the game.
‘We snatched a well-deserved win in the last minute.
‘This is something the team learnt last season in this league.’
Elsewhere, Havant Ladies slipped to a 5-0 home defeat to newly-promoted Surbiton II in South Clubs’ Women’s League division one.
They have now conceded 12 goals in the opening two matches, following their 7-2 defeat to Tulse Hill & Dulwich on the first weekend.
