Gosport are celebrating promotion from Hampshire League division two.

They thrashed Fareham IV 9-1 to make the jump alongside leaders Trojans II.

Daniel Brettell and Steve Loneragan both scored twice for the triumphant St Vincent College-based side.

Rob Forrest, Ben Lewis, Jamie Lewis and Pete Campbell were also on target, while Dean Tutt netted a scorcher to add the gloss.

With promotion on the horizon, Gosport were quick out of the blocks in the derby showdown.

Brettell opened the scoring from a short corner after just five minutes – flicking the ball high into the top corner.

Fareham levelled but soon succumbed to overwhelming Gosport pressure and by half-time were 4-1 down.

After a period of clam, Forrest then kick-started the second period when he converted another set-piece with a fantastic shot into the bottom corner.

They went on to add a further four goals, before central midfielder Scott Rodwell was voted man of the match.

Gosport later thanked Gaynor Toms for her inspirational coaching and tactical decision-making.
