GOSPORT hit a late winner to take the derby honours over Portsmouth & Southsea in their season opener.

Gosport took an early lead before P&S equalised after the break when an interchange of passes between Jack Ferrett and Niall Gray culminated in Gray coolly slotting the ball past the onrushing keeper.

With four minutes left, though, Gosport were awarded a penalty corner, which they converted to bag the win.

Gosport also came out on top in their seconds clash with P&S, triumphing 5-0.

Portsmouth & Southsea ladies’ firsts began life in Hampshire division two with a 2-0 loss to Romsey.

P&S keeper Helen Perriam made a string of fine saves, while player-of-the-match went to Emma Allen.

The club’s second team preserved their unbeaten start after a 1-1 draw at Basingstoke, Laura Marr levelling for the visitors.

And Portsmouth & Southsea Vets narrowly lost 3-2 at Petersfield in their latest round-robin cup game.

P&S looked dead and buried when they trailed 3-0 but made a fight of it with goals from John Pratt and Chris Lawrence.
