Havant have signed Gonzalo Ayala to cover for their ace drag-flicker Sandeep Singh.
Singh is all set to play in the Hockey India League and will be unavailable until the end of February.
The former Indian captain is Havant’s top scorer this season, so the club have brought in new blood in an attempt to replace his goal prowess.
Ayala is an Argentinian striker who also has a deadly drag flick and will remain at the club until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old flew into the country this week and will train with his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday evening.
He expected to make his Havant debut in the rearranged South League premier division one clash with Old Georgians on Saturday.
The match was called off before Christmas because of a frozen pitch and, despite the protests of Havant, was rescheduled for this weekend.
Ayala has played in Italy for several seasons with Liguria and holds an Italian passport.
He has also played in France and was in the Dutch league in 2013 with MHC Bommelerwaard, scoring five goals in four matches.
He does, however, have some experience of playing in England, having joined National League side Indian Gymkhana for the 2012-2013 season.
Ayala is Havant’s fourth signing this season, joining Singh, Maciej Janiszewski and Tomasz Nowicki.
