English under-18s champion Mark Lloyd needs just one point from the last two legs of the Cuestars South of England under-21 Gold Tour to retain his rankings title.
The 17-year-old, from Gosport, was beaten 2-1 in the final of the eighth leg by Eastleigh’s Connor Benzey at Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon.
Lloyd fluked a re-spotted black to take the lead and went in off the black in the next to square the match. He then conceded when needing snookers with two reds left in the decider.
