Portsmouth driver Stevens and his passenger Ryan Charlwood, from Dover, will head to Oulton Park for the start of the event on Saturday.

The duo were at the Cheshire circuit last weekend to fine-tune their preparations.

Stevens admitted he expected the team’s pre-season efforts to pay off over the months ahead.

‘The practice is now all over,’ he said.

‘We’ll be back to start the defence of our championship so it’s down to us to prove all the hard work over the close season from the team has been worth it. I can’t wait.’

Oulton Park hosted the first round of the British F2 Sidecar Championship last Saturday.

Stevens and Charlwood took part in the club races by way of a last practice session and impressed the crowds.

As this was the F2 championship, the majority of the other sidecars were the smaller 600cc machines – compared to their 1000cc engine.

And this showed in the qualifying round when they took pole position.

Race one saw them dominate from the start, and with a huge lead they pulled in before the finish to allow the teams competing in the championship to take the points.

As a consequence, they had to start at the back of the grid for race two.

But despite 30 machines in front of them over seven laps, the duo made up ground and finished in second place.
