Classy Knowle Hotshots light up Social Versatility Festival

Knowle Hotshots are celebrating their second tournament triumph on the bounce.

The classy outfit this time showcased their full range of abilities as they clinched gold at Netball in the Community's Social Versatility Festival.

Hotshots beat 11 rivals to the crown as players switched bibs to test themselves in different positions throughout the event.

They opened with wins over Phoenix (6-2) and Delme Diamonds (7-3) before edging to a 3-2 win over Netball Nerds, who are made up of players from Portsmouth-based Pivotals and Springers.

New side Gemini also impressed '“ beating Netball Ninjas 11-1, Killer Curveballs 8-1 and Netchix 5-2 on their way to second spot.

Hotshots claimed a decisive 4-2 win over Gemini, with Therese Horswell shining under the post. Netball in the Community organiser Debbie Laycock said: '˜Versatility tournaments are always great fun and this was no exception.

'˜They also act as a great leveller and so the results showed as all teams got points on the board. We had a fair few draws and our aim of everyone leaving with smiles on their faces, seemed to be successful.

Liphook-based M&Ms, playing in only their second festival, finished 10th.

Star player Emma Thorne was voted as best and fairest of the Festival.

She said: '˜I was so excited. It's my first ever trophy and now proudly on my mantle!'

Havant You Seen Us finished with the wooden spoon but were all cheers after a 3-0 win against Queens Head Royals.

Jo Dennet and Nicola Baker were both in contention for the star-player prize, such was their enthusiasm and determination.

Laycock added: '˜As always our umpires were fantastic '“ without them we couldn't play and the event was played in a really great atmosphere.

'˜We held a guess the weight of the cake competition and raffle, raising £200 for Macmillan Cancer Care, which is fantastic.

'˜Thanks to everyone who supported by bringing a prize, buying a ticket or having a guess '“ many did all three, proving how generous our netballers are!'
