Havant Whites have set their sights on reaching the premier division of the Portsmouth League as they head towards yet another promotion this season.
The team, formerly known as Havant Hawks 3, currently lead the way in division three by 16 points, with just four games remaining.
And Elly Whitworth’s girls, who are unbeaten in the winter league, look almost certain to continue their progression up the leagues to division two.
That would be quite an achievement for the young side, given that they only began playing in division six two years ago.
During their 2011 summer campaign, the team almost went the whole season without defeat, before losing the very last match to Fusion.
And Havant White had one of the highest goals for and lowest goals against ratios in the whole league.
That was primarily due to some excellent shooting from Natalie Nimmo and Hannah Freeman – and also because of some excellent defence from the likes of Liz Domingo and Lucy Rich.
The team gained instant revenge for that rare defeat by beating the same opponents in the first match of the current division three season.
And coach/player Whitworth is understandably proud of her side’s continual improvement.
She said: ‘I am delighted with the progress of this team.
‘We have a cohesive unit and are really versatile players, and we will continue to work hard and seek promotion again.
‘We started in the old division six in winter 2009 and have gained promotion in every season except one.
‘So with hard work and commitment, there is no reason why we cannot keep pushing our way to the very top.’
