Just Ahead just keep on producing the goods.
The newly-promoted division one side showed they’re no misfits at this level thanks to an opening-day 26-23 win in the new Portsmouth League.
The Misfits were their victims on this occasion, as a confident Just Ahead side carried on from where they left off after an all-conquering debut season in division two.
Despite their dramatic rise to prominence, the team won’t be happy until they have achieved their ultimate goal – premier division netball.
And according to coach Sandy Spong, happy times are just around the corner thanks to a quality squad who are determined to reach the very top.
This winning mentality has been quickly adopted by the youngest member of the Just Ahead team, Sally Hall.
She made her league debut last season and has quickly established herself as a feisty wing-defence.
Now Sprong believes, Hall and the rest of the Just Ahead team can start causing some damage in division one and achieve their goal of a place in the premier division.
‘Sally deserves to be part of the team,’ said Sprong.
‘She has worked so hard at training and is pushing hard to be a regular player. She has great potential.
‘Her sister Kirsten has certainly set a precedence for Sally to follow, playing a steady goal-attack and partnering Hannah Croad – our dependable goal shooter.
‘Bringing our attack together with her constant encouragement and playing skills is one of our senior players, Holly Skinner.
‘In centre court we have the ever-dependable Eleanor Waterfield dictating the play down court.
‘On her wing we have Zoe Parker, who is thoroughly enjoying her return to Just Ahead – being one of our original players from some years ago.
‘Lana Hood, who is fighting for a place in the starting team, showing great enthusiasm and motivation along with Evie Hoolahan and Maddie Michell, is also a great pleasure to coach.
‘Finally, we have our demon defenders. Holly Banks had one of her best seasons last season under the guidance of our senior open squad player Sarah Hartfree.
‘We are also lucky to have Chloe Spong – another open squad player – who is always available to help in attack.’
Just Ahead’s next game is on Tuesday, March 22, against Red Devils at 6.30pm.
