Gosport Ferry have put the disappointment of last season behind them to launch a fresh bid for promotion.

The Gosport & Fareham division five side narrowly missed out on promotion last term – finishing third, despite an impressive record of seven wins and two draws from their nine games.

But that disappointment has only made the Gosport Ferry players more determined to succeed, and they’re reaping the benefits of that never-say-die attitude by enjoying their best-ever season.

The team are currently unbeaten at the top of division five, having won all six of their league games to date.

Their most recent victory was a 48-23 success over Southern Sapphires, and the team are keen for that form to continue.

‘This season has been our best yet and we are working harder than ever,’ said team member Hollie Fletcher.

‘We have the determination to win but we are taking every game as it comes.

‘It was unlucky that we missed out on promotion last season but we are now more determined than ever to work hard and try again for promotion this season,’

Gosport Ferry’s recent success isn’t confined to the Gosport & Fareham League, either.

The club have also entered a team into the Portsmouth League, playing on a Tuesday night.

They are surroundings the team are thoroughly enjoying – and the players are making the most of their time there as they remain unbeaten to date.

‘We have joined division five of the Portsmouth league this season and are currently unbeaten over there, too,’ said Fletcher.

‘We’ve gone over there with a strong squad to ensure we reach our full potential and give all that we’ve got and we are really enjoying it.’

With Gosport Ferry currently leaving the competition in their wake, it’s not hard to identify where their current success stems from.

The team enjoys much stability, with five of the original side still playing, while their link with Gosport Ferry Ltd means it’s plain sailing at the moment.

‘We still have five of our original members – Hollie Fletcher, captain Kim Pinder, Stacey Pankhurst, Sharon White and myself,’ said Stacey Dewan.

‘We have also had Kerry Loughrey, Sam Smith and Lauren Swann with us for a few seasons now and we have really gelled together.

‘We have also added new signing Ruth O’Grady this season, making our squad a strong nine,’ Fletcher and Dewan add.

‘Meanwhile, we are also very grateful for the continued support from Gosport Ferry LTD.’

Gosport Ferry play at home in Gosport next Thursday when they come up against Phoenix (8.30pm).
