Aboutcomms are playing the name game again.
Rebranded for the new 2012-13 Gosport & Fareham League campaign, they will be sporting a fourth different name.
Formerly Toronto Sport and Waitrose GoSport, the side have netted new sponsorship and will be known as GLK this term.
And the team’s new look could not have come at a better time – with the ladies preparing for life in division one.
It is the first time they will be competing at this level, having worked their way up from the lower reaches of the Gosport & Fareham League.
And represents a remarkable turnaround following the club’s darkest period.
Captain Lauren Price said ‘To think nearly two years ago we were on the verge of splitting up due to losing players and getting relegated.
‘But I’m glad we stuck it out and worked hard to get where we are today. Last season was great – only losing two games.
‘So we can’t wait to see what the new season brings.’
They will have to cope without Lucy McManus, though.
The goal-attack has been key to their recent success – striking up an impressive partnership with Price in the shooting circle.
And they will be without the pregnant Sam Seldon.
‘We are really sad to say goodbye to Lucy,’ said Price.
‘She is an outstanding player and definitely helped us in our promotion.
‘We are looking forward to having Sam back once she’s had her baby, though.
‘And I am grateful to our new sponsor – GLK Home Improvements – for buying us a new kit as we want to look the part in division one.
‘I am really proud of all the girls and special thanks go to Lucy for playing for us for so long.’
Aboutcomms were originally formed during the ladies’ school years.
Since then the side has had a number of name changes but the majority of the personnel have remained the same.
Some key players have left for university, though.
And that has seen Price & Co bounce back and forth between divisions.
But a superb season last time out has seen them finally reach the top.
Central to the fantastic group effort was the form of Carly Fitzgerald.
While mother and daughter duo Lorraine and Megan Williams were heroic in the defensive areas.
Court player Gill Almond filled in when required – doing a great job.
And court players Alex Milligan, Marie Sutcliffe and Seldon linked up well to create a formidable team – feeding the dangerous attacking combination of Price and McManus.
