BISHOP’s Waltham Wildcats are on the prowl.
The club have two teams sitting proudly at the top of their respective Gosport & Fareham League divisions.
Wildcats A head division six, with the B team sitting proudly on top of division seven.
Manager Dee Parker has been delighted with the progress made on the court.
She said: ‘‘We really are cooking on gas.
‘Last season we lost a few players due to pregnancy, work commitments, etc and it did reflect in our game.’
‘However, this season is a different story.
‘We have had a few new players join us – Karen Andrews and Lisa Allport in our A team and Judy Excell in our B team.
‘They are great assets and I am immensely proud of the teams.
‘Esther Apps from our A team has won best player twice and Helen Dunning from our A team won the umpires award, which is fantastic.’
Wildcats A have recorded nine wins from their 10 games, losing only to Phoenix.
Meanwhile, Wildcats B have secured eight victories from nine matches.
The club was formed in February 2009 just as a training club and their rise has been rapid.
Parker added: ‘We formed as a result of a girls’ night out reminiscing on how we all use to love netball at school.
‘I bit the bullet and hired out a hall in Swanmore College of technology and between us we invited our friends and family to join us.
‘And during our first season, we had a number of new people join us through word of mouth.
‘The club got bigger and bigger so in January 2010 we entered two teams in the GFNA league.
‘We are all very supportive of each other and we are a very close bunch.
‘We are looking to have some regular coaching as we all want to improve our game and be the best that we can be.’
‘Both teams’ ultimate goals are to get promoted this season and if we keep playing well let’s hope that happens.
‘I would encourage anyone thinking of getting back into netball to do it.
‘Find yourself a local group or even start your own group.
‘That’s how we did it.’
Wildcats A play on Thursday next week against Phoenix (8.30pm). Wildcats B’s take on Fareham Tigers (8.30pm) on Tuesday.
