Fareham Zodiacs are enjoying success again after overcoming a difficult spell.
The team secured promotion back to division three of the Gosport & Fareham League.
They had seemed to be on a spiral downwards after two consecutive relegations – then a mid-table finish saw them stabilise.
Now they are back on an upward curve after 12 wins and one draw sealed a return to division three.
‘We started the season really well and were unbeaten for a while, so we were very pleased with that,’ said team captain Maude Charles.
‘We have had a few point deductions this season but we only lost one game against division-toppers Swanmore, so we were hoping that was enough to gain promotion.
‘We were also pleased to welcome Joni Duffus back this season and she has slotted in brilliantly on centre court.’
Zodiacs had secured promotion to division two in the 2011 winter season. But by 2012 they were back down in division four.
In spring 2013, the Fareham side began to regroup – finishing fifth and they built on that, only losing one game last season.
Charles added: ‘Over the past few seasons, injuries and illnesses have tried to put a dampener on things but we have kept going, putting out a team every week and this season we have built on our performances.
‘Having played so well together this season, we hope we can continue our success.’
Charles believes the team’s bond is crucial to their recovery.
She said: ‘We continue to enjoy each others’ company off of the court, which I am sure helps us through tough times.’
