The 55-year-old had initially signed a deal until the summer of 2019, yet with Pompey 10th in League One, Tornante have moved to extend his stay.

In a club statement, chairman Michael Eisner said: ‘We have been really impressed with the experience, knowledge, hard work and commitment Kenny brings to Pompey and as part of our long-term strategy and thinking, see him as an integral part of our on-field future.

‘It was a simple decision for both parties to make.’
