Alsop put down a strong foundation as Donald eyes imposing Hampshire total
Aneurin Donald praised the work of Tom Alsop in giving Hampshire a strong platform to push for victory against Warwickshire.
With many key batsmen out of the game it was down to someone to step up and be the hero.
Alsop relished the challenge as he moved up the order.
Batsman Donald was then able to contribute a fast 75 off 56 balls while Alsop made it to 131 not out at the close on day one of the County Championship clash at Edgbaston.
Donald said: ‘It was quite difficult at stages and we found it quite tough to score at the start but the foundation was laid there by Tommy.
‘He played an unbelievable knock and that allowed me to come in and bat around him. With a few guys missing he got shuffled up the order and did a fantastic job and at the end of the day we have got to be pleased walking off with that total.
‘For me it was just one of those days. I struck the ball nicely from the start and that allowed me to take a bit of pressure off Tommy. Him holding the anchor role at one end allowed me to come out and play with way I did.’
Donald wants more of the same from Hampshire as they look to take command of the match and build on their day one total of 291 for six.
He added: ‘Hopefully we can carry on tomorrow and get quite an imposing total. If you bowl really well and are really disciplined there is something there.
‘Tommy wore them down and we just got away every now and then. If our bowlers can run in and bowl straight and keep it stump to stump it will be very difficult to score.’
