Bare-knuckle boxer Parker playing a waiting game over ‘dream’ British title fight

Leigh Park bare-knuckle boxer Micker Parker is playing the waiting game to see whether his 'dream' British title fight goes ahead as planned next month.

The 37-year-old is due to meet Dave Thomas for the vacant cruiserweight belt at the 02 Stadium on April 4.

The fight has been plunged into doubt because of the coronavirus pandemic.

All events scheduled at the stadium this month have been postponed in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.

However, as things stand, Parker's second shot at a British title is still ON - but that could easily change with government guidelines on the coronavirus having a different look all the time.

Park has been told he will get his shot at glory, no matter what - it's now just a case of when and how that will arrive.

Options are being explored, with the potential for the BBK 21 show to take place behind-close-doors or be rescheduled for May 23.

‘At the minute, it’s still on,' said Parker.

‘The 02 have cancelled all events until the start of April.

‘With this event being on April 4, it’s on the borderline.

‘It’s being reviewed daily and everything is just changing hourly.

‘It’s a pain in the backside. But like the promoter said to me last night, ‘the fight is still going to happen and you’re going to get your opportunity.’

‘It’s just a case of when that is.

‘There are a couple of options.

‘They can either televise it behind-close-doors, but as a company that would probably not make sense.

‘There is the option of moving it to May 23.'

Parker has been travelling to Bristol to train three days a week as he bids to land the British title for the first time.

However, he knows the welfare of the public must come first.

‘It’s frustrating as I’m eight weeks into camp and I’ve trained harder than ever,' added Parker.

‘Until the day they say it’s not happening, all I can do is keep pushing.

‘My camp has gone better than ever.

‘But at the end of the day my health, the health of the people and my family is more important.'
