Bellair X are on the charge… Waterlooville A edged Copnor B

Bellair X moved up to second in division two of the Portsmouth Billiards League with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Waterlooville C.

It was close in all the games right from the start with Bill Parsons for Bellair winning his game by two points, writes Steve Toms.

Andy Howell went on next and only won his game by eight points. Rob Derry Jnr hit back for Waterlooville as he won his game to claw it back but that was as good as it got for Waterlooville as Bellair turned on the style by winning the last three games. Gary Linter won his game and that was backed up by Trevor Sanders and Steve Scott who won their games by nine and 10 points respectively.

Cowplain B remain top of the pile as they inflicted a 6-1 defeat on club-mates Cowplain Misfits. It was full steam ahead for the B side as they had a great start with Roy Steere and Dave Pitman both winning their games and this was backed up by James Curtis who won his game with a 30 break.

The icing was put on the cake as Doug Powell and Will Garrett both had successes to take them well past the winning line.

The only highlight for the Misfits side was that of the ever reliable Dean Bates who won his game by four points to take their only point.

Meanwhile, in division one Waterlooville A won a close-fought encounter against Copnor B with the home side just edging it 4-3.

For Copnor Derek Foster proved too strong as he beat Emma Bonney even though the multiple world champion made a 75 break.

This was backed up by Phil Ledington who also won his game, but the home side gave thanks to Heath Smith and Nigel Ward who made a 36 break.

The final nails went in the coffin as Gary Marshall and Simon Chapman both played well and won their games to get Waterlooville just over the winning post.

Copnor A & E moved into second spot with a good 5-2 win over Waterlooville D. For Waterlooville Richie Burnett Jnr got them off to a good start as he won his game but that was cancelled out as for Copnor Mark Tillison made a 41 break and Tony Simmonds both came from behind to win their games.

Steve Wilson’s 34 break got a point back for Waterlooville but it was left to Scott Compton’s 38 break and Steve Toms, who made a 43 break, for the Copnor side.

Portchester remain top of the pile and look the team to beat. They defeated Craneswater 5-2.

It started so well for Craneswater as Simon Petrie made a 34 break and Mark Donnelly also contributed as they both won their games.

So it looked on the cards that Portchester were going to lose but they had other ideas as Neil Turp, captain Jason Tame, Matt James and Ashley Bendall won their matches to take them to the summit of the league.
