City athletes jumping for joy as George and Madeline lead the way with county glory

George Rosam and Madeline Wilton led the charge as City of Portsmouth’s jumpers did the business throughout the Hampshire Championships.

Rosam achieved a golden double as he took the under-20 men’s long jump and triple jump titles at the Mountbatten Centre.

He won the long jump with a distance of 6.41m and the triple jump with 12.65.

Aston Lockwood, representing University of Portsmouth, took the senior men’s long jump title with 5.87.

Madeline Wilton had a very strong championship as she won the under 20 women’s triple jump on Saturday with a distance of 10.76 and took the silver medal in the long jump on Sunday with 5.15. Penelope Batty picked up the bronze in the triple jump with 8.91.

The medals kept coming for the City youngsters. In the under-13 boys age group James Smith got a silver medal in the high jump with a clearance of 1.30.

Anna Fairbairn finished third in the under-13 girls’ high jump with 1.30 and Ella Hutton got silver in the long jump with 4.13.

Mimi Nightingale got third place in the under-15 girls’ triple jump with a distance of 9.31.

In the under-17 women’s pole vault City were the dominant force. Poppy Herbert took the gold medal with a clearance of 2.75 and Claudia Garner earned the silver (2.10).

Phoebe March got the silver medal in the triple jump with 9.87 and Maya Shankar managed 8.82 to take the bronze.

It was a very successful meeting for City and the jumpers showed they are working towards big things this summer with important contributions to matches in leagues and the major championships ahead.
