She said: ‘I have been doing a lot of work on the water jumps but I ran a personal best and my legs were so tired I couldn’t actually do the water jump very well. So that is something to improve on for next time.

‘I am still feeling like there is more to come as well so that is good. I wasn’t at my maximum.

‘It’s only my second race back, I had a baby last year so I’m just getting back into it. It was really good I could come back and win.

‘This summer I’m looking for a big personal best in the 2k and the 1,500m steeplechase. I want a really big personal best, so that’s what I am working for.’

Bream was pleased to see the impressive results from a number of the younger athletes in the steeplechase on the day as well.

It shows the future is still bright for the event which often struggles to attract entries in big numbers.

She added: ‘Usually I am running on my own a lot so it is nice to have somebody to push me. They should be getting faster.

Havant’s Corin Bearpark took the silver medal in the senior women’s 800m with a time of 2.15.54.

Rebecca Lord, of Stubbington Green Runners, picked up the silver medal in the senior women’s 1,500m with a time of 4.49.39.
