However, a decision is yet to be made on the final outcome of the campaign for teams up and down the country.

But the association will provide clubs with the implications in leagues across the country by mid-April.

It leaves London One South leaders Havant in limbo as they face a wait to see whether they will be awarded promotion.

They sit two points clear of second-placed Westcombe Park having both played 22 matches.

But Havant head coach Will Knight admitted there is little that can be done as they await a final outcome from the RFU.

‘I think at the moment we just have to wait and see,’ he said.

‘Clearly, in the particular position we are in at the moment it would be really tough for us.

‘But on the other hand, it’s unprecedented times.

‘I know that the Irish Union have decided to null and void the season.

‘That may be the position that the RFU come to.

‘They made decide on a different approach bearing in mind that we are as far through the season as we are.

‘It’s all very unprecedented.

‘All we can do is take a deep breath and wait until those that are looking at this closely come up with some recommendations.’

In a statement, the RFU said all of their thoughts were with everyone everyone impacted by Covid-19 as well as recent flooding events, both across the country at large but also within our own rugby union community.

The association have now launched a 'thorough process to ensure fair and balanced outcomes for the game'.

A final decision for teams is likely to be announced in mid-April.

the Rugby Football Union is announcing the end of the 2019/20 rugby season for all league, cup and county rugby in England.

‘The only exception to this is the Gallagher Premiership, who we are in active discussions with to review possible best next steps.

‘When current government advice on social distancing measures changes, we will naturally encourage rugby training and friendlies to recommence.

‘I would like to personally thank everyone for their swift actions in suspending rugby activity, this is not an easy time and I know many of you will have concerns that go beyond the game.

‘We are working through the implications of ending the season early and have instigated a thorough process to ensure fair and balanced outcomes for the game.

‘We will communicate these outcomes by the middle of April.

‘While we would like to provide all the answers now, we need some time to get it right for the best interests of the game.

‘Rest assured, we are working on this as a priority and we will continue to send weekly updates to clubs.

‘The three areas of focus for the RFU right now are welfare, implications and reboot.’
